In recent years, Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) has been introduced as a feasible key technology for
resolving the problems of conventional vehicle. The power transmission unit plays an important role in
hybrid power train. The application of a smart power transmission helps achieve better compatibility
between components in a HEV. Nowadays, Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) has drawn car manufacturers’
attentions to itself, since it provides the benefits of both automatic and manual transmissions.
Furthermore AMT’s controllability turns it into a decent candidate for Hybrid Electric Vehicle’s power
transmission. The only problem is Torque Interrupt during Gearshift process that can be solved by use of
a Double Sided Clutch.
In this paper, an AMT model is provided and added to a Pre-Transmission Parallel Hybrid Electric
Vehicle model. The gearshift and clutch actuators are simulated and added to a manual gearbox. Furthermore
a Gearshift controller is provided to control these actuators. Then a Double Sided Clutch is considered
in the vehicle model instead of the simple clutch. The simulation results illustrate that better fuel
economy, less emission, smoother Gearshift and shorter shift time can be achieved by using Double Sided
Clutch in an AMT power transmission.
